I won't say I was excited for Christmas this year, but I was genuinely looking forward to it - the anticipation was there. And then along came a Grinch .. looking (and sounding) exactly like my sister. Let me explain.
On Wednesday night I received a call from my cousin Shannon. Having not spoken in a while, the pleasantries must be observed. Opening remarks dispensed with, he asked me if I had Erin's number, since he had misplaced it. I said sure, and grabbed my blackberry to read it off. He was saying that Erin had invited him and my Uncle Syd up for Christmas Eve. Then he asked what time we would be there. Since I don't hear from my sister unless she wants something (refer back to last post ..), We hadn't been invited - this was something she was doing on her own. Talk about an awkward moment on the phone ..! He didn't know what to say, as I didn't. We changed the subject and finally hung up about an hour later.
Not long after that - the phone rang. The voice on the other end identified herself as the "missing sibling". I came right out and asked her what she wanted. She was asking about dinner plans, since she hadn't heard anything. We all go to my sister-in-laws for dinner, since we no longer have the room to host it. It's a standing tradition. I told her this and she said that since she hadn't heard anything from anyone, she had made other plans. She was having dinner with the friends who's basement suite she's renting. Oh, and she was signing Mom out of the Home on Christmas Eve, to stay over for dinner, and taking her back on Boxing Day. We were welcome to come over and see her if we wanted to.
Does this sound like a brush-off or what?
I was soooooo looking forward to my Mom coming over. I was planning on going to Midnight Mass (even though i'm not Catholic - I enjoy this service every year). I was putting the final touches on my pies for dinner. (I always make lemon meringue with extra meringue because Mom likes them that way). This just took the wind out of my sails. I didn't even have fun at work on Christmas Eve like I usually do, I just couldn't get into it.
So I got to spend my first Christmas without my Mom. I tried to call my sister so I could at least wish my Mom a Merry Christmas, but her phone kept going to voicemail. We made the best of the day we could - dinner was fantastic ! The kids had a good time, they are pretty resilient I'm coming to realize, and maybe we'll get to see Mom on Saturday. As for the "missing sibling", she can go right being missing. I'm not going to be looking for her anytime soon.
Moooooooooooooo !

Families. Can I trade mine in ?
I hate that my Mom doesn't have a phone in her room at the home. I miss being able to pick up the phone and chat with her for hours on end like I used to. Because I've been so sick lately, I haven't been up to see her as much as I should. (I didn't want to make her sick, and then have her pass it on to the other residents.) But I couldn't call her and tell her this - because she doesn't have a phone.
See where this is going?
I told my sister to let her know, and my sister got sick as well and wasn't going up. So last night my sister-in-law gets this panicked phone call from my Mom, who used the phone at the nurses desk to call and make sure everything was ok. She didn't call me herself, because she can't remember my phone number anymore. Her short term memory is pretty much shot. My sister-in-law called me, and I called my sister, who went down to see her and assure her we were all ok.
Then my sister (who doesn't call me unless she wants something), called me to tell me I need to go see Mom more. Did she pass on any of my messages? No. Did she tell Mom that I loved her and was thinking about her? No. Did she tell her that sometimes with the shifts i'm working it's too late for me to go see her? No. All I got was "you need to go see Mom more". Arrghhhhhhhh. And of course, this is my closing week, so I won't be able to get up there until Friday. I can't go to see her first thing in the morning, because that's when the doctors make their rounds and the patients have their appointments for treatments and such.
So hopefully when I do get up there, she is ok. And my sister isn't there. I had some words (that I won't repeat) with her on the phone, so I'm pretty sure I won't hear from her now at all, unless she really really needs something. Like lots of money. Or a kidney.
Maybe not even then. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

To Flu or not to flu ...
I probably should have dug a little deeper on the flu vaccinations before I went, but I didn't. Afterwards I realized I wasn't in any of the high risk groups they had identified (nope I don't even play hockey ..), but I figured when you're dealing with the public all day and handling money that has been god-knows-where; better safe than sorry.
So I got my flu shots. Yes, shots. Plural. On the same day. And boy did I get sick.
If I had only got one or the other, then I would have known what type of flu I had. My arms were so sore I couldn't lift either of them above my shoulders. I had a fever that was at least 101 degrees - I sat on the couch wrapped in 2 quilts, and had the heat on, and still couldn't get warm. I coughed for 2 weeks. I even stayed home from work for a day and a half. I couldn't (and didn't) eat anything, just drank aLOT of water.
Now i'm back to normal. The cough is finally gone, my appetite is back, and I feel pretty good. Andy will go get his shot tomorrow probably, and we'll get the kids in at the same time so we will all be good to go. I'm keeping my fingers crossed they don't get it as bad as I did. I have some Pedialyte and gatorade stocked up in the fridge if they do. And lots of blankets handy just in case .. :-)

Update
Well. I remembered how to sign in .. LOL.
I haven't even thought of posting in a while. Wait, that's not true. I would think of it, and sit down to start - then get totally caught up in something else and never get back to it. So here is an update of the last few months or so.
Work is going ok. I'm still on the Front End, and still liking it. People have come and gone (as they frequently do at the Despot), and I actually fired my first person yesterday. The first one since I've been back I should say. She was one of my head cashiers, and even though she's young, I thought she was doing pretty good. Until she blatantly told our store manager and myself that she didn't believe in promoting credit and wasn't going to do it. End of story. Except that it was a part of her job - and she was still on probation. So the story will go on somewhere else I guess. I had her as a friend on facebook, but don't anymore since she dropped me. I don't blame her - I'd be upset too. I still wish her all the best though.
Mom is doing ok these days. Her weight loss has levelled out - she's down about 60 pounds from when she first went into the home. This is just from eating a regular diet and actually exercising! She made it out for our anniversary dinner, and thanksgiving at Betty and Mark's. I haven't really seen her since, I've had this cold that just won't go away. I was able to get my flu shots a few days ago as well and have discovered the vaccine does really work. Because I have the flu now. Grrrr. If I could stop coughing I would feel soooooooo much better. And I think I should eat something, but don't really have an appetite. Maybe in a few days.
We're busy preparing to send Lisa to Cuba in March for her spring break band trip. We've started her passport application and are just waiting for her ID to come in the mail from AMA. Because she's 16, she gets to file as an adult and needs to prove who she is. I'm a little nervous, but I know this will be so good for her to experience. I know some of her friends that are going as well as her teacher, and I know she'll have a blast. I wish I could go too ..! This is her Grad year too, so it'll be that much more memorable. She's also been scorekeeping, and I was quite surprised when she said she gets paid for it. The money is going into her travel fund once it's paid out. Sounds like she's growing up eh ?
Anthony is in grade 6 this year, and his teacher has challenged him to make a plan for his learning. He's decided to improve his reading. He's not big on chapter books, but we're going to get him some book money for Christmas, and help him pick out something to get him going. His teacher says it's a boy thing and she'll do all she can to help him out too.
I won't overdo this post, and promise to update more often!

The Old Job is the New Job ...
I have done it.
I have gone back to the Despot. (Carrie, i'm borrowing your word.) I think I might have gone a little insane for a minute, but I actually had a good first day back.
My curriculum list was fun to work on today. I actually had all the new cashier training to do and it took me no time at all, since I had kept that up when I was at the other store. I just went to the summary and answered all the questions. LOL. Piece of cake !
I have a great counterpart who was running the front end, but is now looking after only Special Services and phone sales, that gave me a complete bio of everyone I have working for me. I have some pretty good head cashiers who look after absolutely everything, so my main function will be coaching and trying to achieve an elusive perfect mystery shop score. I was amazed at what I remembered too. It like bike riding - you never really forget. Sku numbers are starting to come back. (Oops .. guess I need to call them article numbers - thats tomorrow's training!) Eco fees. Bags that cost 5 cents. (Seriously what is UP with that ??) Loads of fun.
At least I get to move around more than my last job, I don't have to replace starters or tires or bumpers on trucks - and I don't have to work with catty women who are so worried about the job everyone else is doing - instead of what they're doing.
All in all, I'm glad to be back. The rocks in my head can be found in the seasonal department. :-)

Hints taken !!
You guys are so great .. dusting off my blog every so often to make sure it's there !
While I didn't totally forget about it, I am like Dallas - I will procrastinate until the cows come home. "I'll do it tomorrow .." quickly turns into 6 months (almost) when you're not looking. And yes I was looking every so often.
So what's new ? It seems like every week at work i'm fixing a truck. Or trucks - plural. My predecessor wasn't big on maintenance, but the bottom line sure looked great. I've been able to cut out all of our temp workers and borrowed drivers, so everyone that works in the building is an actual employee now - so I look moderately better. Until I have to fix a truck that is. Oil changes. Tires. Starters. Engines! Grrrrr. Thanks alot Dave !
On the home front, being the procrastinator I am - I still have boxes to unpack from our move LAST YEAR ! I just haven't had the energy or the motivation to do it. I think when I do it's going to be garage sale time - because obviously if I haven't used it in a year, I don't really need it. I have been able to get rid of lots of clothes the kids have outgrown, which has been good. I've even made some room in my closet, of course Andy wishes I would make more. :-)
Lisa is getting along good with her knee injury. We go to see the Surgeon on the 4th, and i'm pretty sure he's going to tell us she needs to go under the knife. I'm scared for her, but trying to be strong so that she doesn't freak out. Her summer will be pretty much shot though with recovery time and physio. Hopefully they'll be able to get her in early enough so she can be back at school with no burdens. She'll be graduating next year (man does THAT sound wierd), and I want her to be able to enjoy it.
Ok .. that's enough for now. More to follow !

The Election is over .. !
I have to admit .. I have long been a fan of Barack Obama. I first heard his name a few years back, on a news program I no longer remember. He had defended an issue very passionately, and had won over his opponents. I remembered his name because the reporter that was talking about this was also impressed and mentioned (in passing) that if George W. could channel that energy and fire, the White House would run more smoothly. The conversation then went into a general debate about the nominations coming in roughly a years time, and wouldn't it be something if the Junior Senator from Illinois, won his nomination and made it to the White House.
That day is here.
I watched history being made today. I don't think the Democrats would have won tonight if Hillary was on the ticket. I say that because I see the fire that reporter was talking about. Obama is very Charismatic, and has the gift of being a visionary and being able to share that vision very vividly. He was able to excite a whole new generation, and in doing so is recording one of the highest voter turnouts ever to cast ballots. I was watching the results as they came in, and even though John McCain didn't win, he was very eloquent in his concession speech, and talked about how he was going to work with Obama and not against him, because of the Country they both love so much. Obama mentioned in his speech as well, how he was going to lean on McCain to realize his vision. I see hope on the faces of all the people in those crowds that cheered them on tonight, I hope they get to realize their dreams too.
I'm echoing Keltie's sentiments in saying that I'm disappointed Canadians are so blah about electing change. I don't see in our leaders the same passion and fire I see in others. So we vote the same as we always vote, never really changing anything. I hope when the next election comes for us, there is a leader out there that will inspire the same excitement in our young people. To inspire change on a world scale is a great gift, and I can't wait to see how it unfolds.
I'll be able to say many years from now that I saw it happen. I know i'll always remember.

Cool Costumes
I have to say there are some pretty creative kids out there. We saw a lot of cool costumes tonight - it occurs to me now I should have taken some pics to post. D'oh !
I saw the requisite number of Scream monsters, ghoulish masks and princesses, but I also some some really creative things: there was the kid that came to the door dressed in black with purple balloons from neck to knees (a bunch of grapes), there was a very cool Sponge Bob, (that looked almost like the real thing !), and a very realistic looking Hulk (complete with a mask that shed green light around the eyes).
Lots of big kids in the neighborhood too. One kid was dressed as an extremely realistic pimp, complete with purple satin suit and leopard fedora. There was a very cute Buzz Lightyear, a Stormtrooper and of course Darth Vader too. The kids went out early with their friends and finally came home around 9.
Andy had his fog machine going, we tarped off the living room and hallway upstairs so the fog would stay contained in one spot, and had a black light in the hallway with a strobe light in behind - when the kids knocked on the door he would hit the button for the fog. Dressed in black with a white face, and coming through the fog to open the door and hand out candy really freaked everyone out. It was pretty cool, and loads of fun ! Our little graveyard in the garden was a hit too ... I can't wait to do this again next year ! I will edit this post and add pics when I can find the cord to upload my camera .. :-)

Halloween is coming ..
I will post some pics on Friday night, but i'll tell you what the kids will be ahead of time: Ani is going to be a ninja, and Lisa is going to be Wednesday Adams from the Adams Family. I laugh when I say this because it was my idea.
We were out a couple of weekends ago, and she had her hair in braids just like Christina Ricci does in the movie. I forget exactly what we were talking about, but she answered me in the same deadpan voice with the same droll expression and voila! - inspiration took over. We found a cool black skirt, and vintage black top that she can wear, and I bought her an absolutely hideous pair of orange and black striped tights (that she wears EVERYWHERE .. but I digress ... ) to go with them, so she'll look pretty cool. Minimum effort .. maximum effect. Gotta love it.
I think she's too old, but what do I know? I'm sure she'll outgrow it soon enough. We dug up some of our perrenials in the front garden (since they are done for the season anyway) and got a couple of little tombstones and a bag of bones we scattered around to make it look like a disturbed grave. Then we put some stakes around them and taped them off with caution tape. It looks pretty cool. I told Andy we should tarp over the big shrub we have, cover it with dirt and make it look like a real grave - this will be next years project.
Maybe something fun with body outlines .. ala Naked Gun. LOL. Now i'm just getting carried away. This will be our first Halloween over here, we're not quite sure how much traffic we'll see. I know most of the kids in the neighborhood, since they have all been in my house over the summer, so I think we'll have a good turnout.
We have a fog machine and a strobe light for the hallway too, we just need to get some pumpins and get them carved for the steps. I'm going to get Andy out this weekend to hang up the Christmas lights too. He was going to do it last weekend, but that ferocious wind we had would have knocked him over.
Ah well .. if Halloween is this much fun, I wonder what Christmas will be like ?

I live to post again ... !
I was just reading my last post ... So much has happened since then !
My week off was just that ... One week. I interviewed for a new job on the Tuesday after I left, had a callback saying I got the job on Thursday, signed my papers on the Friday and started the Tuesday after the long weekend .. August 5th.
I can hear you already ... where do you work now ?
My new job was Office Administrator for Tiger Courier Inc. We pick up and deliver freight all across Canada, and my job was to make sure call-ins were taken, freight was traced when it went missing, the drivers delivery manifests were uploaded and printed every morning, etc.
I say was because my boss left the company on the 29th of September, and I took over the branch. It's now MY Office. I still do all of those things I was doing before (because I haven't found my replacement yet), I also look after the hiring (Office, loading dock and drivers), A/R and A/P, and i'm on call evenings and weekends.
The best part is the hours. Monday to Friday, 8-5. I come home for lunch everyday, and i'm home in the evenings and on the weekends with the family. It took some getting used to, but I think it's a good thing now. I've popped into HD since I left and have seen some of the faces I miss so much .. but it's weird going in there now. It's amazing how many new people have been hired. New procedures are in place, things have been changed around .. it's just not the same.
Ah well .. life goes on !
Going, Going ... Gone!
It was quick, relatively painless and over in no time. Kind of like having a tooth pulled. I finally quit my job at Home Depot.
After being raked over the coals, AGAIN, on Thursday, I went home and had a serious sit-down with Andy. We're in a good spot financially, we actually have savings that we can dip into if we need to, and I still have a paycheque coming, plus my holiday pay that they are paying out to me. So I sat at the computer on Thursday night, wrote out my resignation letter, and then tossed and turned all night until it was time to go to work on Friday.
Since Friday was the day before my holidays, that was the ideal time. I finally caught our HR manager around 10am, and gave him my letter. I didn't tell Bob directly, even though I owed him that, because he was the major part of the problem. People want to be respected at work, and have respect for their superiors, and Bob just doesn't care about anyone or anything. Our HR asked me what I saw during my exit interviews as things to improve -- Communication has to be the big one. Involve the team in helping to come to those big decisions, let them have some buy in - then the changes you want to make will happen smoother. There has to be respect, and professionalism. When you openly favor one associate or one DS or one ASM over others, you're not doing those people or your team any favors.
Our HR was actually quite sympathetic when I said I was leaving, he told me he wouldn't want to have walked in my shoes for the last 2 years. I was proud of myself for staying non-emotional and professional, and had every intention of taking my week off and coming back for a week to finish out, but after our HR talked to the District Manager, he came back to me and said they would pay me out. And the best part ?? HE told Bob, not me. That was one conversation I didn't want to have. I didn't speak to Bob all day Friday, it was the best day I've had in a long time.
I was ok with that, but there's a lot of stuff I didn't get to finish, and a LOT of people I didn't get to say goodbye to. I've had some phone calls already, I made some great friends in my 9+ years at the Depot, friends I know I will keep for years to come.
So goodbye Home Depot. I'm not going to miss you, but I will miss the people still within your walls. Take care of them !! I already have some interviews lined up, with regular working hours and weekends off. I'll let you know what happens, when it does. :-)

Yes, I fell off the wagon ...
So i'm keeping up with my now quarterly posts .. but I did sort of fall off the wagon. I just read Keltie's post, posting everyones first posts - what a great idea !! We've come a long way since then. It's funny how much life changes in such a short time. Like Keltie said, some of us have become new parents, some of us are moving across the country ! Some of us have older kids, some of us are just getting started. It really is a circle of life !
We've moved again since the last post. We're back into the old neighborhood by Westmount. I love that our townhouse looks out onto the park, watching the jackrabbits frolic in the low-lying fog yesterday was kind of cool. The only thing I don't like about it, is the baseball diamond that is literally right outside the front door. It was ok for the first couple of weeks, but now it's Softball season -- if you're not home from work by 6:30 or so, you have absolutely zero chance of finding a parking spot remotely close to the front door. The other downside is that someone always brings a cooler of beer .. and they have to stay out late until its all gone. Finally I can see the other side of the "we're not making any noise" statement. LOL.
Out back we have a little park for the kids in the neighborhood. I think that's where Anthony has spent the most time since we moved. There's a little less sand out there, because i've swept it up everytime he tracks it in the house. :-) We have a little patio that just fits our barbeque and bikes, I'd like to put up a fence though just to get us some privacy. Maybe next summer.
Lisa just finished her first year of high school. My baby is almost 16, and I don't know how we got here so fast. It's funny when you get talking about the kids and tell someone how old they are, then you have to stop and think about what you just said. She's 15 already ?? Yes, she is. She could be legally driving next year. She might even get herself a job. Boyfriends ?? We won't go there just yet. :-)

Update
I think I'm going to start updating my block in quarters ... we're 3 months into the year and I have been sadly not updating. Even the gentle pokes and notes written in the dust haven't helped. So here it is - an update!
I have some pics to post from Trellia's baby shower .. it was a fun afternoon. Lisa was kind of bored I think, but I got Jack to sleep on my shoulder. I miss having a baby to cuddle !!

Here's the proud Mom !! Jack looks like Robbie - it's amazing !!

Auntie Carrie got to cuddle Jack too !!
On the work side, life goes on. I was going out for my break a couple of weeks ago, and slipped on the ice under the breezeway. I landed on both knees. My right one is ok, but the left one wouldn't bend. I filled out my paperwork and got John to call it in for me, and off I went to the Clinic to have it X-rayed. The Doctor there filled out my WCB paperwork and told me i'd need an MRI done. Nothing was broken, but the MRI revealed 2 tears in ligaments. I get to go see the WCB doctor tomorrow. Hopefully it'll just need rehab, and not surgery.
We're moving at the end of this month. Our lease is up, and they want to raise the rent another $200 above what we're paying now. So we're moving back to the old neighborhood. We found a townhouse by Westmount, that's only $20 more that what we pay now, plus it includes heat and water, so we'll save more money there. Only a few more months to go and the car loans will be paid off, and we can seriously start looking for a house. That will be our last move -- I swear !
That's about it for this update ... I promise to keep this up more !! :-)

Holiday Tidings
It's the last day of the year ... I can't have anyone messaging me and saying "you haven't updated your blog since LAST year ...!". And that would happen .. :-)
Christmas has come and gone in a whirlwind. Everything happened so fast this year ! We went to Auntie Betty's this year -- since we're in our new place, we don't have the room like we used to. I never cooked a Christmas Turkey this year ! Maybe that's why It still feels like Christmas is coming ....
Even all the Christmas cartoons were on Early this year. Around the beginning of the month, the classics first -- Rudolph, Santa Claus is Coming to town, the Grinch etc. No Christmas movies though until Christmas Eve. Go figure.
It was a nice quiet day, with family all around. I helped with the dishes afterwards, cause that's my thing -- I always help Mark do them and then I have to whip him with the wet dishtowel. Call it a Christmas tradition. LOL. Actually that happens on all the holidays .... hehehe.
So now it's the last day of the year. Alot happened this year, I'm not sorry to see it go. Lisa will be 15 on Wednesday, and yesterday she was as big as Lily and Evan !! They say time goes fast when you get older, this year went at lightning speed !! I watch the faces of my kids and see just how fast it goes. My mom will be 78 at the end of January .. and that makes me realize that she won't be around much longer either. But i'm not going THERE until I have to.
Happy New Year one and all .... I can't wait to get started on 2008 !!!

The dust is off !!
*Cough* *Cough*
--Can't see for cloud of dust .... --
Hi Blog ! I remembered where you were! Since I saw you last, I had a birthday, I went to Toronto, and I have been working. Alot!
I went to Toronto for an ASM forum. It was all week, and I got to go with Christina fro Skyview and Liz from Whitemud. We had a BLAST !! When we weren't in the classroom learning how to do our jobs, we were at Niagara Falls, and the CN Tower, Rogers Centre, Shopping on Yonge Street .. it was amazing! When the say Torontonians think of themselves at the center of the universe - I can see why. At the top of the Tower looking down on the City all light up -- I was amazed at how big it really is !! I think the best part of it was flying over the Great Lakes. Funny how actually seeing something in person totally revises your perspective.
What else is going on ??
Trellia has a new baby ! Jack Sterling Loveless was born early last week. I can't wait to meet him ! Work is still that: work. 'Nuff said there. The kids are doing ok in school, and there's only 19 shopping days left until Christmas. I think that kind of covers it for now - just something short and sweet for 2 awesome girlfriends (who hinted None to gently!) to dust off and read.
:-)

It's the End of September ...
Where did the last year go ?
Friends have new babies. Friends have new babies that are a year old. I'm looking at being another year older in a week. Time is just flying by.
These are just a few of the things the last year has brought me:
- I have met some wonderful new friends. I have reconnected with some wonderful OLD friends.
- I have said goodbye to some dear friends.
- I have grown both personally and professionally.
- My daughter started high school this year.
- Friends have new babies. Friends are expecting new babies. Friends have babies that have just turned a year old.
- We are in a new home.
- I am a week away from entering a new decade in my life, and I can't wait to get there !
If ever there was an optimist in the family, it is me. It's something I have always been. There is always a silver lining, no matter how bad something may be. I find I do it at work too. I've been challenged to do that lately, but I'm getting back into my old groove.
The new decade in my life is my 40's. I will be 40 years old. I remember this assignment we had to write in grade 6, about what life would be like in the year 2010. What would everyday life be like? Would be flying around in jet cars like the Jetsons? How old would we be? What did we think we'd be doing? I figured out I would be 42 years old. (Hard to imagine when you're 11.) I would be married and would be a teacher. I can't remember if I said I would have kids or not.
The funny thing is it's almost all true. (Except for the jet cars.) What I never imagined was the fun of being 20, and the realization of being 30. I was married at 21. A mom at 25, and again at 31. Started a new career in my 30's, that's taking me into my 40's. I am sort of a teacher .. not in the sense I imagined, but in the sense that I teach people stuff at work, and I teach my kids stuff everyday.
I wonder what 50 will be like ???

Dang Facebook !
It's taken all my time.
When i'm not working (which is a big chunk of my day), I am at home. On facebook. When they say it's the fastest growing phenomenon on the internet, I can see why. I have hooked up with friends I haven't seen since elementary school. My Mom used to babysit the neighbor kids with us when we were small. We all had the mumps together, and the chickenpox together, and now we're all older and on facebook together! I have a lot of work friends. I have facebook friends. I have sports figures, and regular people. I love that you can update your status anytime and tell everyone what you're doing. They also have some cool applications, like pirates. You can play poker. You can do trivia. It's amazing!
Since my last blog update (which was a LONG time ago -- sorry everyone), we have done some celebrating. We had our 18th wedding anniversary on the 9th, and Anthony turned 9 on the 17th.
The kids are back at school, and school fees are out-friggin-rageous! Lisa started high school this year, and I think for her supplies/fees alone, it was almost $500. Anthony's was just over $250. How do parents that have 4 and 5 kids do it ?? Lisa's at band camp already, just until tuesday. I always thought band camp was in the spring, I guess you need to practice sooner when you're in high school. (I always want to tease her and say ... "... this one time at band camp ...")
There's some good concerts coming to town -- that I have tickets to. I'm going with my sister-in-law to see Def Leppard/Styx next Monday, and then 3 weeks after that we are going to see Ozzy/Rob Zombie. As a family. That should be fun!
That's the last 4 weeks or so in a nutshell. I've starting thinking forward .. I have some christmas presents purchased already, and we're already talking Christmas Party at work. Ho Ho Ho!

I feel Guilty
FYI: This was a draft that I never posted .. so I'm doing it now. D'oh !
I'm happy and yet I feel horribly guilty at the same time. Why you ask? Because Carrie's coming back to work! And because Carrie's coming back to work.
Let me explain.
I just read Carrie's post and while I am happy she's coming back for a couple of evenings a week, I'm sad that she's going to be absolutely miserable being away from Miss Lily. It's hard to take those steps back into the workforce when you've been everything to a child for the last year. Chief cook, bottle-washer, diaper-changer, snuggler, cuddler, teacher, companion, in other words; Mom. She is going to miss some of the moments that will define Miss Lily going forward: maybe her first step, maybe a tender moment with Dad that she will hear about when she gets home.
She'll have to put up with a hot building, grumpy shoppers, and a boss like me .. but the one thing that makes me smile, and I know will make her smile -- is the big hug she'll get when she gets home.

The best steak marinade recipe EVER !
While picking up some groceries last week, I purchased a package of the best looking steak ever. Sirloin tip steaks, in a family pack, on sale! Roughly 8 cuts for just under $9. They looked like they had just been cut and wrapped, so I picked them up.
When I got home I figured I would marinade them and then pop them on the barbeque for dinner, and I found the best marinade recipe in a cookbook that I've had forever. I don't know why I never looked for a marinade recipe before, but this one caught my eye. And I happened to have all of the ingredients in my kitchen. Serendipity I tell you !
This is the recipe:
Soy Marinade
1/2 tsp ginger 1 green onion, chopped
1 garlic clove, minced 3/4 cup oil (I used virgin olive oil)
1/4 cup soy sauce 3 tbsp honey or sugar (I used honey)
2 tbsp vinegar or lemon juice (I used lemon juice)
Combine all ingredients in a small bowl and mix well. It makes roughly 1 1/3 cups.
I put the steaks in to the container and popped them in the fridge for the afternoon. Every so often, go and flip the container over to coat the steaks really well. They take no time at all to grill (depending on the size of the pieces) and they were sooooooo tender, I could cut the meat with my FORK!
This with some twice baked potatoes, and broccolini (blanched so it was still firm), was dinner. Yummy !
